In the framework of the 2022 cycle of events « FEM2:2 Das Jahr de l'égalité », the Goethe-Institut and the Institut français in Prague organised a panel discussion on gender equality in science, with a special focus on the field of STEM, in partnership with Charles University and its Kampus Hybernská.

Why do we need gender balance in every area of science? What misconceptions and difficulties are women and girls facing?  In science systems and institutions, how do we move from mere gender awareness to effective and transformative actions? What are the key levers to trigger the necessary changes? 
The panel discussion focused on sharing experiences between three speakers coming from different professional and cultural backgrounds and promote best practices from the field as triggers for real-life changes.

Panelists :

• Colette Guillopé is a French mathematician, Professor at Université Paris-Est-Créteil-Val-de-Marne (UPEC, France). She is the former president of the associations « Femmes & mathématiques » (1996-1998) and « Femmes & Sciences » (2004-2008).
• Viktoria Niebel is a social scientist and local science manager in the EU-funded project RESET - Redesigning Equality and Scientific Excellence Together at the Equality Office of the Ruhr University Bochum. Between 2017 and 2021 she was Equal Opportunities Officer for scientific employees.
• Tereza Petrusková, is an Assistant Professor at the Charles University, Faculty of Science, Department of Ecology. She is behavioural ecologist, focusing her research on songbird vocalisation and bird territorial behaviour. At the moment, she serves as the European secretary of the Association for the Study of Animal Behaviour.

Moderator: Aleš Vlk, former adviser to the Minister of Education of the Czech Republic and co-founder of the online magazine on science and research Vědavyzkúm.

The panel discussion was followed by the screening of the French documentary "La science a mauvais genre" ("Misgendering science" - in French with English subtitles).

La conférence s’est tenue en ligne le 15 mars 2021 dans le cadre du Cycle Ideas Yard ‘Talking about Europe’ d’EUNIC Prague, avec le soutien de Eunic Global, en partenariat avec le Centre culturel Italien, les Centre culturels tchèques, en anglais avec interprétation simultanée en tchèque.

Alors que la pandémie a causé des dommages à la société entière au niveau mondial, certaines catégories de population ont été plus touchées que d'autres. Les femmes en particulier ont été exposées à des pressions à tous les niveaux : économiques, familiaux ou sanitaires. La pandémie a également accru les inégalités entre les sexes, sapant les progrès réalisés ces dernières années.

Ce sujet a été discuté et approfondi lors d'une discussion en ligne réunissant Kateřina Haring, présidente de l'Association tchéco-morave des femmes chefs d'entreprise et gestionnaires (ČMAPM), Sandra Laugier, professeure à l'Université Panthéon-Sorbonne à Paris et Massimiliano Mascherini, directeur par intérim des politiques sociales d'Eurofound (Fondation européenne pour l'amélioration des conditions de vie et de travail). 

Le débat a été animé par Alžběta Králová, fondatrice et directrice de l'Académie des femmes d'affaires de Prague. 

Alžběta Králová
Alžběta Králová est consultante politique, responsable des relations publiques et fondatrice de l'Institut de marketing politique (IPM). Elle a rejoint l’équipe de campagne d’Emmanuel Macron en 2017. elle a également fondé l’académie des Femmes  des affaires.

Sandra Laugier
Sandra Laugier  (née en 1961 à Paris) est une philosophe française contemporaine qui travaille sur des questions de philosophie du langage, de philosophie des sciences, de philosophie morale, de philosophie politique et d'études de genre. 
Elle est professeure de philosophie de classe exceptionnelle à l'université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, où elle est directrice adjointe de l’Institut des sciences juridique et philosophique de la Sorbonne (UMR 8103 CNRS, université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne). Elle est chroniqueuse au journal Libération. Dernier ouvrage publié : La société des vulnérables. Leçons féministes d’une crise (avec Najat Vallaud-Belkacem), Paris, Gallimard, 2020

Massimiliano Mascherini
Massimiliano Mascherini est chef du département politiques sociales chez Eurofound (l’agence de l’Union européenne chargée de l’amélioration des conditions de vie et de travail) 
 Il a rejoint Eurofound en 2009 en tant que directeur de recherche, concevant et coordonnant des projets sur l'emploi des jeunes, les NEET et leur inclusion sociale, ainsi que sur la participation au marché du travail des femmes.

Kateřina Haring (née le 20 mars 1974) est une femme d'affaires tchèque, directrice, présidente de l'Association tchéco-morave des femmes entrepreneurs et directrice de l’agence de marketing Dynamic Group.

The Impact of the Pandemic on the Gender Equality

Although the pandemic caused damage to global society, some categories were affected more than others. Women in particular have been exposed to pressure from several quarters, be it economic, family- or health-related pressure. The pandemic has also increased gender inequality, undermining the progress made on this issue in recent years.
The following personalities has addressed this topic more profoundly in their joint online discussion: Kateřina Haring, President of the Czech-Moravian Association of Women Entrepreneurs and Managers, CMAPM); Sandra Laugier, philosopher and professor at the Pantheon-Sorbonne University in Paris; Massimiliano Mascherini, Head of Unit ad interim for Social Policies of Eurofound (European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions). The debate was moderated by Alžběta Králová, founder and director of the Prague based Women's Business Academy. The event wa part of the Ideas Yard project under the auspices of the EUNIC Prague-based cluster and funded by EUNIC Global funds. It was organized by the Italian Cultural Institute in Prague in cooperation with the French Institute and the Czech Centres, Prague.

Massimiliano Mascherini
Massimiliano Mascherini Is head of the social policies unit at Eurofound, having joined the organisation in 2009 as a research manager. He has a PhD in applied statistics from the University of Florence and has been a visiting fellow at the University of Sydney and Aalborg University.

Katerina Haring
Czech businesswoman, manager, president of the Czech-Moravian association of entrepreneurs and female managers and CEO of Dynamic Group. Vice President for Europe of the international organization Femmes Chefs D’Entreprises Mondiales (FCEM). Ambassador of the Czech Republic to the Women’s Entrepreneurship Day (WED) project. In 2020, Forbes magazine ranked her 109th in the list of 135 most influential Czech women.

En écho à la Journée internationale des femmes et des filles de science (11 février) et à la Journée internationale des droits des femmes (8 mars) et dans le contexte où la France s’apprête à co-présider le Forum Génération Egalité, les Instituts français de Slovaquie et de République Tchèque vous proposent une table ronde qui réunira des spécialistes du genre dans le milieu académique ainsi que des femmes scientifiques qui feront part de leur propre expérience. 

Rôle de l’éducation et des médias, équilibre vie familiale-vie professionnelle, politiques publiques en faveur de l’égalité, font partie des sujets qui seront abordés au cours de cet événement.
